Funchal night life seems to be quiet but it is an impression.As a matter of fact,many famous hotels(Carlton,ca-

are two main  area for night life,the harbour and the lido where
are situated the popular bars"jam" and

The lido is lively but more geared towards lively bars and excellent restaurants but the yacht bar and the white
house are very popular.Live music is offered every week end in "o'briens bar"at the crown plaza hotel in the lido or at "o'briens bar" of the crown plaza Hôtel.Many restaurants in the old area can offer to the nostalgics evening parties of "fado"  at the "Marcelinos" and at the "Arsenios" into Funchal east surroundings

In February from the 16th till 20th: carnival festival with a brasilian atmosphere of samba (Maderian school).
 In April from the12th till 22sd: is the popular annual flowers festival in honour of maderian child and flowers.
In June from the 1st till 30th:date of the atlantic festival.Festival of Maderian music,international concourse
of fireworks and philharmonic orchestra in the streets of Funchal.
In August from 31till 2sd: the wine festival (vindimas),craft industry,tasting.
In December from 15th till 31: christmas preparations,cribs in the lighted up streets,firework. 
Some general informations: in city centre the parking is difficult.Taxis are innumerables and take possession of
the most free places.Many underground or elevated carparks have been fited up in the city,their entry is discre-
-te and simply indicated by a placard with a big "P"and the mention"livre"(free) or "completo"(full).Neither par-
-ticular vaccines to stay in Madeira nor administrative formalities,for a national of the European union an in order identity card is sufficient.The excise duty is relatively low(12%),the restaurants inexpensives. 
Infortunately,the fuel price has recently increased and is approximately like in another European state.The but-
-cher's and baker's shops are unusuals,you will be obliged to buy this foodstuffs at the supermarket opened until 22.hrs 7 days a week. A good Maderian butcher's shop is exactly located next to the market of the
ploughmen to the right angle of "old hospital" street.The phone cards and the stamps for post cards are solely
sold at the two post office of Funchal.Shops are opened from Monday to Friday between 09.00hrs and 19.00
hrs,with lunch break from 13.00hrs to 15.00hrs.On Saturday,shops open only in the morning,from 09.00hrs to
13.00hrs.The exception are the shopping centres that do a 10.00hrs to 22.00hrs stretch seven days a week.
Banks are usually opened from Monday to Friday ,between 08.30hrs and 15.00hrs.
Travellers from the UK will need of a plug adaptator very difficult to find in Madeira. 
The car renting agencies  of Funchal are less expensive than international societies.The recovery of your car at the airport will cost you about 15euro.If you can reserve it at the beginning of the year,it's better,
because the prices are not finally fixed and climb as soon as happen the throng season!
