Formosa beach area is the largest public beach on Madeira island.Located on the west of Funchal city,it consists of four mix black sandy and pebble beaches,called "praia nova",
"praia nova","praia formosa","praia dos namorados" and "praia do arieiro",all offering excellent water quality.,blue flag certified and offering a parking,many sports activities,skate board ramps,changing rooms,lifeguards,snack bars, restaurants,and a children's play area.
Formosa beach is also the starting point of the famous coastal walk from Sao Martinho Ponta Gorda to Funchal Lido.

Doca do cavacas is a small bathing complex close to the Formosa beach.A tunnel connects them and it has a natural volcanic rock pool and direct access to sea with changing rooms,lifeguards,restaurants and bars.This seaside resort is quite small and usually full of holiday-makers in Summer.

Ponta Gorda is a very popular seaside resort  situated in Sao Martinho along the famous coast walk to Funchal.It has a direct sea access,two pools and a children's pool with a covered play area,a restaurant and a snack bar.At the beginning of Ponta Gorda nautical complex is the "Madeira magic centre" fine to visit.

Lido sea-side complex is located in the very popular and well known tourist hotels area.The Lido is the most popular shared communal pool with direct sea access in Funchal city.It also has a coastal walk to Formosa beach.This nautical resort consists of two seawater swimming pools which are daily cleaned and filled.A children's playground and many others sports activities are there to enjoy!It offers sun beds,parasols,table tennis...
Gorgulho beach is a tiny free pebble beach located along the Lido walk in a specific nice location with excellent water quality.This beach is unsupervised but has showers,WC and close to bars and restaurants.
